Kenyan Evangelism Mission
It all started when…
I met Rev. Frederick Kitanga several years ago at a Global Methodism Dinner at Claremont School of Theology, and we have been friends ever since. In 2019, I learned that he had been commissioned as a missionary and was planning to travel to Fiji for his mission work.
In July 2019, I was appointed as the pastor of Lahaina United Methodist Church. As we prepared our budget for the following year, I noticed we had unallocated funds in our missionary budget. I contacted Rev. Kitanga and discovered that the mission in Fiji had been canceled. He was back in Kenya, training individuals for ministry and planting new churches. Our church decided to send its missionary funds to support his efforts.
Rev. Kitanga is an ordained elder serving in the Mombasa District of the UMC Kenya-Ethiopia Conference. Along with his colleagues, he is tasked with planting new churches in regions of Kenya where Wesleyan churches have not yet been established, which makes up a significant portion of the country. Rev. Kitanga has already started a house church in Mwea, Kenya, and hopes to build a meeting place there.

Lahaina United Methodist Church has been supporting its ministry for the past three years.
Due to the split between the United Methodist Church (UMC) and the Global Methodist Church (GMC), the Mombasa district is working diligently to plant new churches to replace those that have left. However, they are facing challenges in obtaining funding to support these churches and pay clergy, and they need our assistance.
To address this, they are reaching out to friends in the California-Pacific Conference (Cal-Pac) to share their mission and seek support. Rev. Kitanga, who served in the Cal-Pac Conference while studying at Claremont, is leading this initiative.
I have attached a link to their latest mission report, along with some pictures and videos. If you would like to contribute to their efforts, please click on one of the donate buttons.
