Kenyan Evangelism Mission
It all started when…
I met Rev. Frederick Kitanga several years ago at a Global Methodism Dinner at Claremont School of Theology, and we have been friends ever since. In 2019, I learned that he had been commissioned as a missionary and was planning to travel to Fiji for his mission work.
In July of 2019, I was appointed as pastor of Lahaina United Methodist Church. As we prepared our budget for the following year, I noticed we had money in a missionary fund that we were not using. I contacted Rev. Kitanga and found out that the mission in Fiji had been canceled. He was back in Kenya , training people to work in ministry and planting new churches. Our church sent his ministry money to support their efforts.
Rev. Kitanga is an ordained elder to serving in the Mombasa District of the UMC Kenya-Ethiopia Conference. Reverend Kitanga and the colleagues he brought with him to the UMC have been tasked with planting new churches in regions of Kenya where Wesleyan churches have not been established, which is a significant portion of Kenya. Rev. Kitanga has already started a house church in Mwea, Kenya, and would like to build a meeting place there.
Lahaina United Methodist Church has been using our missionary funds to support them, but sending them money can be challenging. With the split between the UMC and the GMC, the Mombasa District has difficulty obtaining support to fund churches and pay clergy. They are, therefore, looking to reach out to friends in the Cal-Pac conference to share about their mission in hopes of getting support. Rev. Kitanga served in the Cal-Pac Conference while studying at Claremont. I have attached a link to their latest mission report and some pictures and videos below. If you want to donate to their efforts, please click on one of the donate buttons.
