Help Lahaina Families This Holiday — Double Your Impact
Since the fires on August 8, 2023, Lahaina has been rebuilding, but many people are struggling to rebuild their lives.
Poverty on Maui has surged, and with FEMA scaling back direct leases in February, many Lahaina families will face steep housing and living-cost challenges. Food, gas, and rebuilding costs continue to rise.
Lahaina United Methodist Church is joining organizations such as Lahaina Rotary Sunset, Lahaina Rotary Sunrise, Episcopal Relief & Development, and clinic case managers from the Hoʻōla iā Mauiakama Disaster Long-Term Recovery Group to respond to the need. This Christmas and into the new year, we will provide gift cards and direct assistance to organizations such as the Maui Rescue Mission, the Salvation Army, and Royal Family Foster Kids. We will distribute the cards through outreach events and keep some on hand for anyone who reaches out to our church for emergency help.
Right now, a generous donor has offered a $1,000 matching fund: every dollar you give will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $1,000. That means your gift goes twice as far to buy groceries, gas, rebuilding supplies, and short-term housing help for neighbors who are struggling.
How your gift helps
These cards will help a family:
buy a week’s groceries,
pay for a tank of gas and errands,
help cover urgent utility or household needs,
Any amount helps — every dollar will be matched until the $1,000 match is met.
You can donate by clicking the button below and paying with a credit card or PayPal.
You may also send a check to the church at the following address: PO Box 10253, Lahaina, HI 96761, and write "Local Ministries Fund" in the notes field.
Mahalo nui loa for your support during this season of giving. Your support allows us to respond quickly to the needs of our neighbors by sharing God’s love through active compassion.
Ke Akua pū,
Pastor John
